About Contract Specifications
Contract size can vary between instrument categories - a standard Forex lot is typically 100,000 units of the base currency, while contract sizes for Metals, Indices, Commodities, Shares and Cryptocurrency CFDs are set individually per instrument. For the trading costs that apply on top of these specifications - spreads, commissions and overnight swap rates - see the Spreads & Commissions and Swap Rates pages.
Contract Specifications FAQ
A contract specification is the fixed set of technical details for a tradable instrument - including its contract size (the amount of the underlying asset in one lot) and the currency it is priced and settled in.
A standard lot in Forex is typically 100,000 units of the base currency - for example, one lot of EUR/USD represents 100,000 EUR. Smaller position sizes, down to Pairmetric's 0.01 lot minimum, scale down from this same standard lot.
The base currency is the first currency in a pair and the unit the contract size is measured in; the quote currency is the second currency, and the one your profit and loss are settled in before any conversion to your account currency.
Contract specifications cover contract size and currencies only - for spreads and commissions see the Spreads & Commissions page, and for overnight swap rates see the Swap Rates page.
Use the Margin & Leverage Calculator, which covers contract size for Pairmetric's most actively traded instruments, or contact our support team for the exact current figure on any other symbol.
